How do I order Western manuscripts?
1) Find the manuscript you are looking for by browsing in the library’s catalogue REX. If necessary you can limit your search to specific collections (e.g. Manuscripts) in the drop down menu. If you are using the shelf mark, you must use the library’s standard style and abbreviations (Gammel Kongelig Samling = GKS; Ny Kongelig Samling= NKS; Accessionssamlingen = Acc.; 2° = folio; 4° = kvart; 8° = oktav) – e.g. ‘NKS 3485 kvart’.
2) In the REX catalogue record click Request & Location (if present) or Order, which leads you to a form. Please indicate your day of arrival and note which specific parts of the archive you wish to see if relevant (e.g. boxes 5-8, letters from XX to XX). If you need to order a large quantity we will collect a part of the material for your day of arrival and ask you to fill in manual forms upon your arrival. Please write to the Manuscript Collection at email@example.com to make specific arrangements.
3) You will receive an e-mail, once the material is ready for use. Normal delivery time is up to 48 hours (weekdays)
If it is not possible to order through REX, you can send an e-mail to firstname.lastname@example.org or fill in manual forms in the reading room. When ordering through mail or manual forms, please carefully note the relevant shelf mark (e.g. ‘NKS 1524 oktav, ‘Acc. 1990/24’, ‘Tilg. 205’), name(s) of authors or correspondents, content/title, which parts of the archive you wish to see and your date of arrival.
